Mom type protection…

By amanda April 18th, 2008

After lunch today I stepped into the restroom and found a little girl standing at the sink.  She was probably in 2nd grade.  Quietly playing at the sink she looked a bit sad.  She wasn’t saying anything at all.

Her skirt was tucked into her pants just a little and I let her know, I didn’t want her to go out and be embarrassed or made fun of.  She didn’t really respond so I told her I’d fix it.  As I got her straightened out a bit I noticed she had a small note taped in her hair.

I inquired about it, asking if she knew it was there.  She told me sadly something had “happened”.  She was obviously a little upset from being picked on.  Hiding a for a couple moments in the bathroom.  Trying to get the tape out of her hair but afraid it would hurt.

I very gently removed it and asked if she was alright.  She nodded.  I let her know that the tape was all taken care of, and she walked out of the restroom.  I hope I helped a little, I think I did.

Kids get picked on.  It happened to me, it happened to Sherman, it will happen to Comma.  I know this.  She’ll bounce back and be the cheery little girl I’ve seen before.  She was having a rough day and someone had been mean.

It didn’t make me want to hunt down the kids that put tape in her hair and give them a stern talking to any less.

Some day Comma will come home after a rough day.  Not wanting to talk about it Comma will head to their bedroom and shake it off.  I’ll have to resist the urge to pry too deep and hunt down the nasty little buggers that made my baby sad.

Hopefully I’ll remember that sometimes it’s just about asking if they are ok and gently getting the tape out of their hair.

And you were worried about being a mom. Pshaw. Looks you already got what some parents never get in their life time. Lucky Comma.
