Thoroughly modern Manda…
Sherman gets a good chuckle out of me. I sit here, sewing machine to my left, laptop to my right; both angled just the right direction for me to be able to work somewhat simultaneously.
What can I say, I’m a woman who likes my technology, both old and new. If I can’t decipher how the heck to gather the sleeves on this dress from the pattern instructions I can reach over, Google “gather, sewing machine” and get at least eight great tutorials. Its a gift from the technology gods (and protection for the sewing machine). If it wasn’t an option I’m pretty sure everything I ever made would be sleeveless.
Streaming The Current on MPR works quite well with the sewing machines hum. It’s amazing how hearing “Weird Science” by Oingo Boingo can bring a smile to my face as I am futzing with the recently learned gathering method. I can listen to the news and check out the most recent election rumors!
Being able to hold a conversation with a friend across the country, or a husband down the street while still making cute critters for Comma make me happy.
I’ll admit, my attention span is..well…lacking sometimes, having everything set up within easy reach is my version of Ridlen.
All I’m missing now is the baby in the Johnny Jump Up (see my store if you are interested in adding to the confusion
) hanging from the doorway. I can entertain baby and cats by making puffy little lumps that are easily tossed as a distraction. Verbalize can make the baby laugh as I make the computer read my most recent blog post in the “Good News” goofy voice.
Honestly it’s be great if the table were bigger…I could have a place to roll out pastry dough when the machine jams up.

Wait until you sew one of those of those carefully gathered and eased in sleeves in — inside out (twice) I have actually done that. After that you and your sister wore a lot of jumpers with store bought tee shirts under them.
I already did! Sewed it on twice then had to make a new one after the kittens ate one!
